"Long-Term Solutions for Problems in Africa"

“A Hopeful Competition” is a three month-long fundraiser that seeks to use a competitive atmosphere between our clubs to raise $10,000. The idea was born out of a very successful, two-week event that Hope 4 Africa @ Iowa State held in 2010 called Greek Campaign 4 Hope, a competition between Greek houses on campus. Through that event, we saw the value that a competitive spirit can have in fundraisers. We are optimistic about this fundraiser, as evidenced by our goal of $10,000 – here’s a fun fact: if we accomplish our goal, this will be, by far, the most successful semester in Hope 4 Africa’s history! We will be utilizing a fundrasing platform on Crowdrise.com for this fundraiser, more details on this later in this page.
We are holding this competition from January 23rd to April 23rd, during which time clubs will compete with each other to earn prizes in several categories, from total money raised to most creative event. Of course, we recognize that some clubs have advantages over other clubs, whether it is the size of the school or the amount of years the club has been in existence; for that reason, we are breaking it down into 4 divisions.
High Schools: Waukee High School, Valley High School
Small Colleges: Loras College, Truman State University
Rookie Universities: University of Northern Iowa, University of South Dakota, University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Ohio State State University
Veteran Universities: Iowa State University, University of IowaThere are five ways that each of the schools in the competition can win an undisclosed prize. Here is the breakdown:
1. Total Money Raised, overall/division: The club that raises the most money by April 23rd will receive a prize. In addition, each club that raises the most money in its division will win a prize.
2. Most Creative Fundraiser, overall: The club that comes up with the most creative way to fundraise for the competition will win a prize. To determine which club wins this award the Hope Team will review each of the fundraisers and take a vote on which was the most creative.
3. Highest Average Meeting Attendance, division: Each club that has the most members, on average, attending their weekly or bi-weekly meetings in their division will win a prize.
4. Monthly Winners (total money raised), overall: To keep the momentum going during the competition period we will be awarding prizes to the clubs that have the most money raised by the following dates – February 23rd, March 23rd and April 23rd.
5. Awareness Event, overall: Since its not all about the money, we would like to spice things up a little bit and get clubs to help us spread awareness about our cause but in creative ways. Each club that wants to compete for this award needs to create a video from the event because we will be uploading them online for people to view and vote for the best one!
This year our focus is in four programs: H2O 4 Hope, Music 4 Hope, Electricity 4 Hope and Hope 4 Students at our three partner schools in Kenya. The programs are:

Since we become a 501 c 3 organization in March last year we have started to be able to have access to various fundraising elements online. One of these elements is through Crowdrise. “Crowdrise is about giving back, raising tons of money for charity and having the most fun in the world while doing it.” This is why we chose to use this great resource for this competition. Each club we will have a fundraising page that they will use to fundraise. They will be able to document offline donations as well, however this money needs to be turned in to the organization by April 23rd to count for the competition. Each club leader will be contacted by one of our Hope Team representatives in regards to how to use the fundraising page. Donations outside of the club members are also welcome, so if you want to share your club’s fundraising page with family and friends, feel free to do so! Here is the list of all the clubs in the competition and each of them have link that will direct you to their fundraising page on Crowdrise.
