This organization means a life to me, not simply because I started it but because of the people we help. There is no other better feeling than knowing you’ve helped a student just like you go to school and achieve their dreams. I am not an expert on African Affairs, but growing up there for 12 years has taught me countless life lessons that I hope to share with people here in America. Africa made me who I am and giving back to it is the least I can do. My goal is to shed light on the situation in Africa, but not just any light: a positive light which shows that while Africa is struggling with several hardships, there is more than enough reason to consider it a hopeful story with a brighter future.

I joined Hope 4 Africa my senior year at Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa, when it was still just a small club. When Moses started the branch at Iowa State, he brought me on as his Vice-President, a role which I filled until the end of 2010. Having been to Kenya (in the summer of 2010) and seen the impact that we have had on the schools we support, I believe wholeheartedly in the mission of this organization. By doing things like running our Clubs 4 Hope campaign with my fellow Co-Director of Operations, Marisa, and managing the blog with Cameron, our Director of Public Relations, my wish is to help expand Hope 4 Africa so that we can have an even greater impact in the lives of people less fortunate than me.

I joined Hope 4 Africa my first year at Iowa State. I knew Cameron through a mutual friend, and one night he noticed I was wearing an Invisible Children bracelet. He told me I might be interested in the ISU Hope 4 Africa club, so I came to the next meeting. As they say, the rest is history. I fell in love with the club that first night and believe wholeheartedly in its mission. I have taken every opportunity I have had to help out with the growing organization, which is how I ended up on the Hope Team. I think this is just the beginning of a lot of big things to come and am extremely excited to see where it goes in the future.

Director of Public Relations
Cameron Johnson
Junior at Iowa State University in Advertising
I began my journey with Hope 4 Africa back home at West Des Moines, Valley High School, in the club with Moses. My love for the work we do and provide has grown strong, faithfully believing our mission of “long-term solutions for problems in Africa,” starting with quality education. Being an advertising student, I have always wanted to be involved with getting Hope 4 Africa’s name out to the world, through Public Relations. I served as the executive member at the Iowa State club, and I now serve as the Director of Public Relations at Hope 4 Africa. The future is bright for Hope 4 Africa! It has come so far from its beginning, I am excited to see where it goes, and I can’t wait to be along for the ride!

Director of Graphic Design
Lindsay Timmons
Junior at Iowa State University in Graphic Design
Some people would say I sing too much, I’m too sassy, and I love Hope 4 Africa too much. I’m a junior at Iowa State University studying Graphic Design with a minor in Journalism and Mass Communication. I became a member of Hope 4 Africa the fall of my freshman year and have been motivated to improve African education ever since. I feel incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to work with Hope 4 Africa and serve as the Graphic Design chair.
