"Long-Term Solutions for Problems in Africa"

We consider the job of “spreading the word” about not only the problems of Africa, but the potential solutions to those problems of equal importance to our primary goal of fundraising for our specific programs. The logic here is simple: while we may be limited in the scope of our direct impact on that great continent, the potential that lies in getting people to care about and believe in Africa just by spreading the world is limitless. Consider, for example, the following:

Let’s say a student, we’ll call her Hope, just because we’re original like that, comes to a meeting at one of our university or high school clubs and hears one of the leaders share some information about Africa, such as a story about famine, war, or poverty. The leader goes onto say our philosophy that increasing access to quality education in Africa is the best way to break the cycle that leads to the aforementioned problems. This message really clicks with Hope and she comes away from the meeting feeling inspired. However, because of other obligations, she ends up not being able to fully involve herself in her H4A club. In spite of this, Hope’s newly found interest in Africa leads her to do some research and she stumbles onto the site of an organization that focuses on microfinancing. While she agrees with our assessment of education being a great long term solution, the process of microfinancing REALLY strikes a chord; Hope has just found a new passion. She, herself, tells friends and family about microfinancing and this new organization she’s found and the chain reaction continues. From just one short speech by a club leader, countless others have been exposed to the problems and potential solutions of those problems in Africa; even though these others may not be directly supporting Hope 4 Africa, Hope and her friends are still advancing our goal of helping to bring long term solutions to Africa.

This simple philosophy is behind our passionate push to spread awareness here in America. Our Awareness Initiative is a multi-faceted, continuous approach with limitless potential and great ambitions. Read on to see what we’re doing to accomplish our goals. (text)
