Hope 4 Schools
Hope 4 Schools was formed to provide a direct way where students in America can help provide quality Education for the children in Africa. From research, we have concluded that to be able to provide long-term solutions for Africa’s problems, we need to first educate the Africans.
To achieve this great goal of educating the whole continent of Africa, we have to start somewhere. With our current connections we are working in Kenya, Africa and then later on we will establish connections in other African countries and launch projects there.
Education in Kenya
In 2002 the government of Kenya introduced free primary education and later in 2008 introduced free secondary education to all public schools. What the government did not foresee was the overwhelming number of children and adults who turned up for the free education. One of those who reported to school was an 84 year old man!
With these large numbers the schools were overwhelmed and facilities were stretched beyond capacity. The result was at best poor education and at worst no learning. The system of education in Kenya is designed in such a way that through national examinations few who pass move on to secondary schools and eventually to university. The majority drop off to a life of poverty and hopelessness.
Currently, the rich have pulled their children our of public schools and taken them to private schools were education is of high quality. The gap between the rich and the poor has grown wider and wider. Poverty leads to hopelessness. These hopeless individuals resort to crime and other destructive lifestyles.
What we have done so far
Since fall 2008, we have been working with a school in Nakuru, Kenya called Ngata Starlets Academy. It is a primary school from K-12 and has over 200 students both boarding and day scholars. So far:
We have provided 17 scholarships.
We have bought new school supplies.
We have built new classrooms and a dormitory.
We have funded a water harvesting project to provide clean water.
